Student Assistants
A portion of the grant money for the development of the Citrus Campus Biodiversity Trail was, from the beginning, designated to hire Student Assistants. Each SA was paid a small stipend and given the opportunity to work with Prof. Schenk in developing the project. From designing exhibit layouts to creating artwork to writing photo captions, these students brought their unique perspectives to the project. Much of what BioDiT Citrus has become is a testament to the hard work of these outstanding students.
BioDiT Citrus, Student Assistant
August - December of 2023
While a student at the College of Central Florida's Wilton Simpson Citrus Campus, Alexis was involved with several different student organizations, including REACH, Rotaract, Hands on Hunger, and the CF Book Club, serving as vice-president of the last two. She also served as a Student Ambassador and worked a Student Assistant and later Student Services Specialist in Student Affairs. Away from CF, she coordinated fundraisers, coached gymnastics, and worked as a nursing home receptionist.
As the very first BioDiT Citrus Student Assistant, Alexis proved an invaluable asset! She developed the basic layouts for Exhibit #08, including the insect diet mind-map, the insect colors concept, and the beneficial insects concept. She also came up with initial designs for the layouts in Exhibits #10 and #11. She contributed lots of photos, artwork, and the all-important 3-D printed poop emoji. The "A Closer Look" artwork featured on exhibit posters is her design.
She is currently enrolled at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville where she is pursuing a degree in Business Management with a minor in Digital Marketing and Analytics. Her schedule remains full at UNF! She works as an Events Services Assistant, continues to work as a nursing home receptionist, is vice-president of the UNF Compass Club and a member of Every Nation Campus.
