From 1991 to 1995, David Walker wrote for several Florida newspapers. His column "On the Wing" was a part of the Ocala Star Banner and covered information about native birds.

When College of Central Florida was still known as Central Florida Community College, it was proud to metaphorically shake hands with David Walker. When the Citrus Campus location was first opened in 1996, Walker was at the dedication ceremony for the library's first special collection.
In thanks for his tireless efforts at educating others about Florida's environment, the special collection bears his name. The collection keeps David Walker's memory alive with shelves of items donated from Mr. Walker's personal library and material related to the environment he spoke for.
