Special Collection: Florida Authors

Coming Soon - Florida Authors Special Collection

The Florida Authors collection is housed at the CF Citrus Campus Library. The collection consists of material written or illustrated by authors currently living in or who have lived in Florida. It includes a focus on fiction, anthologies, and poetry books based in Florida.

Books by authors from or currently living in Citrus County will be marked.

A selection of companion books relating to the fiction and poetry is also available.

In the future, the online libguide counterpart will contain links to websites related to local authors, writing, designers, and podcasts.

The Joseph L. Reed and David E Walker special collections include additional material related to Florida. At this time, the Reed collection houses the works of Piers Anthony.

Submitting to the FL Author Special Collection

If you would like your work to be considered for the collection, please read over the parameters for the collection prior to using the Local Authors Donation Form on this libguide.

General Parameters and Selection Criteria

Main Parameters for Authors:

At least 1 of the following parameters needs to be met.

  • Florida residents:  Authors, poets, and illustrators who live in, have lived in, or who have strong ties to Florida
    • Historic Florida authors such as Hemingway, etc. may be included unless otherwise noted
  • Citrus County residents:  Authors, poets, and illustrators who live in or have lived in Citrus County
    • Note 1: Books written by authors from or currently living in Citrus County will be marked as "Citrus County Local Author" on the spine
    • Note 2: Anthologies published by the Citrus Writers of Florida will be given the highest consideration in being added to the collection

Main Parameters for Books:

At least 1 of the following parameters needs to be met.

  • Books written by authors who have met the above parameters
  • Books whose main setting is a mappable FL location (ex. Citrus County, Everglades, etc.)
  • Books whose setting is a fictionalized town, but notes that it is based in the real state of Florida and contains true to life inspiration from Florida. Books whose setting is a fictionalized land, planet, etc. based on Florida may be considered as additions to other collections in the library.
  • Anthologies: need to contain a minimum of 50% of material set in FL or based on Florida or all authors reside in FL

 

Additional Parameters, Rules, and Requirements:

  • The author must represent and warrant full ownership and/or legal rights to publish all material in this book, including artwork.
  • At the time of donation, books must be in new or like new condition with no missing or damaged pages, covers, etc.
  • All donated copies may be considered as additions to the collection. Based on the noted selection criteria, a copy may or may not be added.
  • Library books, including books donated to the Local Author Collection, may become worn, damaged, or go missing. When this happens, the item is removed from the collection. Authors are not informed of this removal.
  • Additional donated copies may be accepted to replace copies that have been damaged or missing, or in the event an updated version of the text is released that contains significant changes.
  • Donated material will not be returned to the author. The donated material will be placed in an area where patrons may choose to take the item home to add to their personal collection.
  • If selected, it may take up to 6 months for your donated book(s) to appear in the collection.

 

Additional Selection Criteria for FL Authors Special Collection

Please note that books will be immediately disqualified for the following reasons:

  • Books by authors who reside outside of Florida for extensive periods of time (years/decades) and who do not write about the state
  • Unusual bindings such as: spiral bound, stapled, etc.
  • Any loose or potentially loose pieces such as: loose-leaf pages, items glued inside the book, etc.
  • Missing or damaged pages, covers, etc.
  • Lack of proofreading, editing, etc. such as: typos, misspellings, formatting, etc.
  • Workbooks or other books that encourage writing inside them, filling out information, perforated pages encouraging easy removal, etc.
