April is National Garden Month!

Beginning in 1986 with National Garden Week, people have celebrated this time of year as a time to garden. In 2002, the National Gardening Association resolved to extend the celebration to encompass the entire month of April.

People can make gardens of all sizes, with all kinds of vegetation. Each person can make a garden that fits their needs. A garden can be as small as a windowbox, a front or back yard, or even bigger.

Gardens may help reduce stress, provide fresh flowers or herbs, and many other features.

Gardens also benefit the environment. By putting native plants in a garden, it can benefit pollinators like butterflies and bumblebees. Many people may choose to create "butterfly gardens".
