Service: CF's 2003-04 Learning Theme
The CF Library is an excellent source for information about service and volunteering. The purpose of this pathfinder is to provide a general overview of the variety of resources available to help you learn more about “Service: A Value of Community,” CF’s Learning Theme for 2003-2004. If you would like assistance in locating or using these resources, please ask a Reference Librarian for help. According to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, service can be defined as “an act of assistance or benefit to another or others” (1649)…with or “without expectation of reward” (2002).
BOOKS and VIDEOS
LINCCWeb provides a listing of books and videos that are owned by the Library as well as access to the holdings of all Florida community colleges and state universities. Other information databases such as Academic Search Premier and FirstSearch are also available through LINCCWeb. You can search for a book in LINCCSearch by author, title or subject. All books, both circulating and reference, are located on the 2nd floor of the Library. Special Collections are located on the 1st floor across from the Circulation Desk. Reference books are for use in the Library only. Check at the Circulation Desk for videos. Subject headings related to service include the following:

Magazines are a major source of very recent information on a topic. The best way to find information in magazines is to use a magazine index, which will give you the exact location where an article can be found. Database indexes, which cover service, include FirstSearch (Humanities Abstracts, Social Science Abstracts and WilsonSelectPlus), Academic Search Premier, Issues and Controversies and Custom Newspapers.
